I hope some people can come!

(I seriously doubt it goes as late as 9 p.m. I just had to put an end time... I hope many of you can make it! Plan to stay for the whole thing not just for the pre--show... I listed the type as performance because I am performing to warm things up but there are also panelist/lecture elements as far as the main event goes -- it should be pretty excellent and is a unique and wonderful experience close up and personal with the composers and such)

go to the above website and sign the petition to save this man's life... whether or not you agree with the death penalty, I imagine we can all agree that the death penalty is Bill-used when it executes both innocent and potentially innocent people. A short summation is that there is very little evidence that kept Troy Davis, and he was mostly convicted on faulty eyewitness account. Most ofthe eyewitnesses were coerced and recanted after word. You may want to read the following, which I think comes from the above website (I do not know for sure... I did not use the website because there is an event near my university, and I hand signed a petition their)
Thanks for taking the time to support justice for Troy Davis and Officer MacPhail. If you have not already done so, please forward this urgent action (http://www.amnestyusa.org/troydavis ) to all of your friends.

Board Member Robert Keller
Board Member Milton Nix
Board Member Garfield Hammonds
I was deeply disappointed to learn that you denied clemency to Troy Anthony Davis on September 12, but I recognize that you can revisit this decision at any time between now and September 23. I strongly urge you to do so.
I welcomed your decision to stay the execution of Troy Davis in July 2007. When you issued this decision, you stated that the Board "will not allow an execution to proceed in this State unless and until its members are convinced that there is no doubt as to the guilt of the accused." In March, the Georgia Supreme Court denied Troy Davis a hearing, so doubts of his guilt will always remain. In their dissenting opinion, three members of the Georgia Supreme Court, including the Chief Justice, wrote of their doubts about Troy Davis’ guilt.
Please clarify your reasons for denying clemency, and how you have dispelled all doubt.
This case has generated widespread attention, which reflects serious concerns in Georgia and throughout the United States about the potential for executing an innocent man. Nothing can undermine public faith in a criminal justice system faster than an execution when serious doubts about guilt have not been resolved. The power of clemency exists as a safety net to prevent such an irreversible error and preserve public confidence in the state’s capacity for justice.
The integrity of justice in Georgia is at stake in this case. I urge you to clarify your reasons for denying clemency, to reconsider your decision, and to stop the execution of Troy Davis.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely

so many reasons to fear this place. you have probably heard of the florida college student tasered for asking kerry a q. i can't type right now because of pain but jesus fucking christ. he did NOTHING. i have watched the tapes, several tapes from several angles. yes, he resisted arrest, but in a PASSIVE overall way. they fucking tasered him when they had no right to be forcing him into silence in thef irst place. i wish a heaven existed--sorry if you believe, i do not right now--so i could say heaven help us.

YAYAYAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll make this short because my beautiful wife is trying to sleep and the typing may bother her:
I found out I am getting published in 2 different places! One is Toast Magazine, out of California, which is not a lit mag but a mag with a poetry section, and the other is the minnesota review, which is a very nice literary magazine. WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EE!!!!!
Also, I am one of four featured poets in an Atlanta reading in August--with 3 other fabulous poets--Beth Gylys, one of my current profs, being the most famous. She has asked me to read at her book release, too, which is sometime in Sept.
YAYNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll give more details on how to access said publications soon. WoooooHooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!

so apparently being a writer makes me herdlike, teeheehee. but at least i'm intellectual:
So, dangerdyke, your LiveJournal reveals...

You are... 11% unique (blame, for example, your interest in fire-hooping) and 33% herdlike (partly because you, like everyone else, enjoy writing). When it comes to friends you are normal. In terms of the way you relate to people, you are keen to please. Your writing style (based on a recent public entry) is intellectual.
You are weirder than 40% of other LJers.)

Greetings fellow crazies,
If you have nothing to do this Friday evening, you are crazy, and if you have something to do, but it does not include attending the Portfolio Center open mic and double-feature reading, you are also crazy. If you are already planning on going, you are off the hook.
Details(not my words, but they sure are nice):
FRIDAY, APRIL 6, 7:30 PM (SIGN UP AT 7)
POETRY AT PORTFOLIO CENTER
FEATURED POETS ***MICHELLE RANGE & JESSICA HAND***
Award-winning poets Michelle Range and Jessica Hand will read their work. The
open mic and reading series is hosted by Collin Kelley. Portfolio Center is
located at 125 Bennett St. in Buckhead (Mick's is on the corner and Fresh
Market across the street) Visit www.collinkelley.com or www.portfoliocenter.com
for more information.
Ok, my words now: so you can mapquest, but a helpful hint is that you see the mentioned Mick's when you are on Peachtree St, and you turn as if you are going to go eat at Mick's but it's not just a parking lot--you can keep going and it's a weird road and you follow that weird road a short while, passing galleries, an antique store I think, etc, and eventually Portfolio Center is on the left. Parking all around.
Hope to see you and your crazy or not-so-crazy buddies!
Jess

Oh man, this deserves to be a long entty, but I have more important thigns to do so a quick note of sharing--I just received a paper prayer hankercheif in the mail. It came with my very own sealed prophecy letter...except I ruined the juju by unsealing it and reading it (and laughing my ass off) without writing mine and Jeana's name on the ahnkercehif and putting it on some specific Bible verse and sleeping on it and some other instructions. I'm supposed to mail it back to the church---uhm no.
Heehjeeeeeheeeheeeeheeeeee---one day I may have to type up all the text of the letter and envelope and extra treats inside---I am just *rolling*!!!
Ok, off I go.

Hello lovelies---I have been asked to be one of two featured poets at the Portfolio Center!!! I will be reading my poems there on April 6th at 7:30 p.m. The portfolio center is at 125 Bennett St NW Atlanta, GA 30309 (404) 351-5055. The best way to get there is from Peachtree Street--turn as if you are going to eat at the Mick's on that road (which is a turn at a light--left ir right depends on which way you are approaching), and then you have to drive back on this little road attached to the parking lot past a bunch of little buildings, and it will be on the right. More about the portfolio center itself at www.portfoliocenter.com.
The other featured poet is Melissa Range. I don't personally know her or her work, but she won the Rona Jaffe Writers Award and has had poetry in Atlanta Review and other journals.
Come hear me read!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It will excite my widdle heawt!!
Kisses and yay!

No, this is not about Spear Brittney's shaved do. This is to say tha Finesse thingee I am trying to do was supposed to be closed to public rating on FEb 15 but has been extended to March 31. So you've got 40 some odd days of fun clickyclikcy to do for me PLEEEEEEZE. I still keep popping into the top ten now and again so maybe there's a shot, esp as public rating is a factor but not the only factor in who they select.
This is not, of course, all that is going on in my life. Too overwhelmed to type about anytnign else, though.
Later, oh peeps.
Oh, the link:

Edit: I am ok---just some sadness and physical fatigue/pain etc--nothing horrible or huge, though. Didn't mean to worry anyone.

Ok, the change from my last entry is that I forgot to say in my last entry to PLEASE copy this message and post it in your own journal and ask your friends to do the same--hey, I briefly popped into the top ten in less than a day....on the extreme offchance this happens, you all get to say "Hey I know that shampoo girl!" ;-)
And here's the message again so you can copy it into your journals like dutiful little beings :) Also so that you remember to go rate me everyday. There's a blue bar on top of my picture---you move your cursor over it until they all turn blue and then click to enter the rating. Assuming you're giving a full rating, which you better! Be careful not to click early or it will register a low rating!
LE Message:
Go Do This For Me Now!!!!!!!! (please)
On a silly whim, I entered this Finesse Shampoo contest. If you feel so
inclined, you can go here
http://finessecontest.com/users/0204071 525207wuDfNS1 and rate my entry (10,
if you please) once a day until Feb 15th. Send this to anyone and everyone
who might rate me once or everyday!
Thanks! Love,
Jess
